5 Reasons Why A Logo is Essential for Your Business
October 22, 2019 by NDG-Katana in Branding

Logo design is essential and should be one of the first things a business thinks about after their Why; however, many businesses completely ignore a logo. This is to their detriment! They’re missing out on easy advertising, well once you have a logo designed. That’s why we’re sharing 5 reasons a logo is essential!

So, why do you need a logo? Pretty much 90% of people living in a first-world country will recognize these brands. The other 10% are the babies who can’t identify anything yet. So, if you want to dominate your industry you need an easily identifiable trademark i.e. a logo.

However, logos are not the end-all-be-all of your business. If you don’t know ‘why’ you do what you do, your logo won’t mean anything. You won’t have emotions, a message, a mission, or values to attach to your logo to give it meaning. Logos are a valuable tool for your brand identity, but they are not the most important part.
The flip-side of this is if you go somewhere like Fiver, where you can get a logo for $5, you’ll get what you pay for. A logo has to stand out and identify your business. It can’t do that if it looks like every other logo in your industry (essentially a brand zombie), so choose your designer carefully.

Logos are important because:

1 – A logo reveals your identity

Remember watching old Westerns? Traditionally, they branded cattle to mark ownership. Your logo should do the same (without the pain).

2 – Invites new customers

People like shiny things. I’m convinced we’re all magpies with the way we hoard certain items. The same thing applies to your logo on your storefront and every package you send out. Your logo should be designed to draw interest, prompting your audience to, at the very least look. At best, they should buy your products.

Generic Real Estate Logo Examples
Yeah, this. Don’t use these. Logo vector created by freepik – www.freepik.com
Sotheby's International Realty Logo Example
This logo is far more memorable, but don’t think you’re limited to only text if your industry has an overused icon(like a house in realty). This is the time to have a brainstorm session with your designer to imagine creative solutions!
3 – Makes you Iconic
A logo has to stand out and identify your business. A generic logo won’t do you any favors, and may even hurt your business. There are certain symbols that have come to represent certain industries.

Perhaps you’ve seen a house icon for your last realtor? Complete with little windows and extra eaves?

A great logo should reflect who you are, and distinguish you in your industry.
Dare to be different.
4 – Builds Brand Loyalty
Typically, every so often brands will redesign their logo. As a marketer and designer, I get it, this is a way to update their look or reflect some change in values or direction. However, as a consumer I’m frustrated. We become familiar with our favorite brands and feel betrayed when they make a change. This is brand loyalty, just as choosing Coke over Pepsi is. Even though science has proven that Pepsi tastes better (we talked about this in our previous blog). Customers consistently prefer Coke to Pepsi, why? Because a familiar logo goes a long way to building brand loyalty.
5 – Used absolutely everywhere
Use your logo on everything. I do mean everything, your marketing, packaging, products, social platforms, website, cars, etc. This is how you share your brand and message consistently. If you’ve developed your brand message and tied it successfully to your logo, everything you do becomes associated with your logo and thus your brand!

Alright, that’s all 5 reasons why a logo is essential for your business! A simple logo is best if you need to use it on a variety of materials (aka social to t-shirts). You can have an icon only, text only, or combination just keep it simple. Avoid generic logos, as that will be one of the first steps to becoming a brand zombie. However,  before you can decide on or simplify your logo, you need a logo!

How many people do you know prefer Starbucks coffe How many people do you know prefer Starbucks coffee over anything else?

Coffee is subject to personal preference. Some people prefer Keurig, some Denny's at 3am, others a $5 Starbucks Frappe.

Ask why someone prefers one over the other and usually you'll hear "it's a feeling when I go there", or "I love how friendly they are."

This ties into a brand's values. Starbucks values a sense of community, comfortable surrounds and a familiar coffee aroma.

Burnt out trying to manage your social media marke Burnt out trying to manage your social media marketing? Information overload is an unfortunate side-effect when delving into social media (whether your browsing or crafting content). There are enough new tweets created in a single day to fill a 10-million page book.

So, how does your business create content that is relevant to your audience?

First, know your audience. Talk to them on the platforms they prefer.

Second, create new content. What information can you share that your audience wants to know?

Third, curate content. When sharing relevant content, offer a meaningful insight with your own summary.

Lastly, focus on quality content. Use your allotted time for marketing to create the best content you can. More isn’t better.
