WORDPRESS! The most popular content management system in the world. There are 74,652,825 WordPress sites worldwide. About two years ago I was introduced to WordPress. Well, actually I introduced myself to it.

I decided to find a tutorial, and learn some WordPress basics. I picked one, and I ran with it. I built my first WordPress site within 8 hours. It was a small website with a free template, some plugins, and some stock free images. I think that was one of the first times I realized that I really like building websites. Ever since I finished that tutorial I have gotten better and better without any signs of slowing down.

The tutorial I found was very informative, very long, and very interesting. It started at the very very beginning of a creating a website, which is getting a domain. There are many web hosting companies online, and after doing a lot of research I decided to stay with the iPage, GoDaddy, and InMotion Hosting. These companies are the biggest hosting companies in the world, and they provide a very easy cPanel access, as well as very knowledgeable support.

The next step was installing and setting up WordPress. I remember installation taking seconds, and setting up WordPress took less then 10 minutes. That included picking out the right template, adding necessary plugins, and setting up the correct site name, tagline, etc.

All that was left was to start building web pages. One of the plugins that left a lasting impression was Page Builder. That particular builder was an open source plugin that allowed me to divide a page the way I wanted to. Once the page was set up, all I had to do was put widgets within the blocks to display text, images, videos, links and so on. This step took up most of the time because it was very tedious work that had to be done very carefully, and it had to be done for every page.

Once I completed the tutorial I immediately decided to redo the website, but this time I would not use tutorial’s help. I remember it like it was yesterday, it took me tree times longer to build the website. I had to create my own content. I had to acquire stock free images. Needless to say, I quickly found out why having a plan when building a website is so important.
